Animation E: Synchronous Machines – Chapter 7

Paul Krause Oleg Wasynczuk Steven Pekarek Timothy O'Connell

Input Torque Switching

On this page, we animate the torque switching process described in Section 7.7 in the text for the elementary two-phase synchronous machine. The instantaneous phasors for $\tilde{i}_{as}$ and $\tilde{v}_{as}$ during the torque switching are animated in Figure 1 below, while portions of Figures 7.7-1 and 7.7-2 from the text are animated in Figure 2.

To operate the animation, click the "Play" button in Figure 1. Three play speeds can be selected from among 0.1, 1, and 10 times the nominal speed by clicking the button to the right of "Play". You can also move to a specific moment in the animation by dragging the slider left or right. To pause the animation, simply click "Pause".
