UAS Crash Scene Mapping Workshop for Public Safety Agencies

Event Date: September 26, 2019
JTRP hosted over 30 law enforcement officers and fire fighters for a UAS crash scene mapping workshop at Purdue’s Indiana Corn and Soybean Innovation Center on September 26, 2019. Clearing a crash scene as quickly as possible is a common goal for law enforcement, fire and rescue, and

transportation agencies. This workshop demonstrated techniques and field procedures to accurately and efficiently document crash scenes using photogrammetry from Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS).  Following presentations on crash scene preparation, image capturing and processing, and flight mission planning, attendees participated in hands-on activities to design and execute their own UAS missions to document the mock crash scene.

The crash scene mapping workshop was developed in collaboration with the Indiana Association of Certified Accident Investigators, Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office, Lyles School of Civil Engineering and Joint Transportation Research Program.
