On Wednesday, April 13th, the Lyles School of Civil Engineering hosted the German America Chamber of Commerce for a seminar on the innovation of energy efficiency in transportation systems. The event kick-off was a poster session in the Woods Commons to highlight some active research projects and give students an opportunity to engage with German transportation specialists.


At the seminar, representatives from the German transportation sector spoke about the popularity of better service quality and more efficient operations.  Dr. Christian Prehofer, Chang’an University, introduced the integration of smart IT components from automotive apps to trends in mobility and transportation. Representative from German companies, including Hella Corporate Center, P3 Group, and Zollner Signal System Technologies, talked about products that are aimed to improve safety, work smarter, and more efficient.  The last speaker was a Transatlantic Program- Young Technology Leaders alumnus of 2012, Jeremy Goldstein.  Jeremy spoke about the intelligent transportation communication systems in Germany today.

The seminar helped students connect their classroom studies to real-world technologies, developments, and understand that global awareness is key to creating smart and successful transportation systems.
