Purdue Road School - 109 Years of Innovation and Collaboration

The 109th Purdue Road School Transportation Conference and Expo was held on March 14-15, 2023. Purdue University Executive Vice President for Research Karen Plaut welcomed attendees at the Opening Session and highlighted the history of the annual conference that has grown from attendance of 75 in 1915 to over 3,000 transportation professional representatives from state and local agencies, industry, and academia who attended in 2023.

The Opening Session featured a Fireside Chat with Indiana Governor Eric J. Holcomb, Indiana Department of Transportation Commissioner Michael Smith, and City of Noblesville Mayor Chris Jensen.  Richard Hedgecock, Indiana Constructors, Inc. President, moderated the discussion related to Indiana transportation infrastructure and the impact that investment has on economic development in the state.

The Road School Exhibit Hall on March 14 and 15 provided attendees with opportunities to network and collaborate with 52 exhibitor booths. The Student Poster Session allowed students to share their research and engage with transportation colleagues from across the state.

This year's event offered more than 190 hours of technical sessions involving nearly 400 speakers and moderators. Road School presentations are archived in the Purdue Libraries' online repository and are available for viewing at http://docs.lib.purdue.edu/roadschool/. The Purdue Road School archives provide a rich history and have over 1 million downloads from proceedings dating back to 1924.
