On October 26, 2017, the Joint Transportation Research Program hosted INDOT’s Communication staff from all over the state at Purdue. Highlights of the visit included interacting with Civil Engineering faculty and staff in the Hampton Materials, Concrete, and Traffic Labs. Each lab presented demonstrations on research projects related to relevant INDOT research and implementation.

A stop at Herrick Labs to see the Cummins engine and hybrid system test cells highlighted Purdue and INDOT’s continuing efforts to improve automotive efficiency and reduce engine emissions.

The group visited the Niswonger Aviation Technology Building to tour the Dynamic Flight Lab, Engine Test Cell, as well as the Hangar of the Future Research Lab. A stop at the Center for Aging Infrastructure/Steel Bridge Research Inspection Training and Engineering Center (CAI/S-BRITE) provided the opportunity to view bridge specimens, including the Virginia Avenue’s South Split beam.

Following lunch, a LiDAR and UAS demonstration at the Agronomy Center of Research and Education (ACRE) gave a few INDOT personnel the opportunity to fly a drone over the area.

The day as a whole was a great opportunity to showcase our Purdue partnership with INDOT and to discuss future opportunities.
