On April 18, 2018 members of the Indiana Department of Transportation EVOLVE mentoring program and the Joint Transportation Research Program toured the I-69 Section 5 construction site.

The project is located in the Seymour District and is part of the I-69 Evansville to Indianapolis corridor. Section 5 runs from State Road 37 south of Bloomington to Indian Creek in Morgan County. The project consists of 21 miles of improvements to a 4-lane state highway to meet interstate standards. It adds four overpasses, four interchanges and expands to a six-lane section for 10 of the 21 miles.

INDOT’s Construction Director, Jason Bunselmeier explained the multiple stages of construction at each stop from live excavating areas to completed stretches of highway.  Bunselmeier also explained the beneficial impact this project will have on the local cities and towns.

A stop at the project office allowed INDOT’s Project Manager, Sandra Flum, to explain the overview of the construction and the steps INDOT is taking to get it completed. Flum explained the time and effort that was taken to make this project a success

Overall, the day was a success allowing the group to see first-hand the result of years of planning and teamwork.
