Last week, Purdue Lyles School of Civil Engineering students and faculty members had the opportunity to participate in an interactive field trip as part of the INDOT EVOLVE mentoring program. The field trip took place at the ongoing INDOT I-69 Interstate construction project near Bloomington, Indiana. Some of the onsite tour stops included crossing locations, Plummer Creek II Mitigation Site, and the SR45 and SR37 Interchanges.

Students were able to interact with INDOT engineers, staff, and consultants during discussions that covered the planning process, project challenges, construction issues, and funding steps to move forward with this key transportation asset.  “I am a huge believer in field/peer based educational model of the INDOT Evolve program and was pleased to have the opportunity to participate with some of our students,” says Professor of Civil Engineering and JTRP Director Darcy Bullock. This is the third INDOT EVOLVE interactive field trip that Purdue University and JTRP have been involved in.
