Pro-Bot is a multi-functional, programmable robot for children ages three and up, designed to look like a car. Included with Pro-Bot is a USB charging cable and a storage box. In the user guide, children will find information about the operation and care of their Pro-Bot, as well as decorative decals to customize it to their liking. Pro-Bot offers two ways to program, either through a set of four arrow keys used to create sequences, much like TTS’s Bee-Bot or Blue-Bot, or through a more complex system called “Logo programming”, which involves pairing the direction keys with magnitudes (allowing the robot to move forward a custom distance or make a precise turn) and constructs like loops and prepackaged sequences. It also introduces the use of sound, light, and touch sensors that can be accessed through several of the prepackaged routines. To accompany the more complex system, the Pro-Bot includes an LCD screen to help the user keep track of the entered commands, and as each command is executed, the LCD screen highlights it to help children understand the program flow. The robot can be used on its own, or it can be combined with supplementary items for more varied play. For example, it has a holder for a dry erase marker, allowing it to create a visual representation of its own path, and it also has four attachment points for K’nex pegs, giving children the ability to use it as a base for other creations. Pro-Bot is a more advanced unit than its predecessor, Bee-Bot, and it offers children at any level of coding knowledge the chance to learn more about algorithm development, sequential execution, computational and logical thinking, and coding concepts like sensor integration, loops, and sequences.
