Blue-Bot is the next step up from the Bee-Bot programmable robot. While it has the same shape as the colorful bumblebee robot, Blue-Bot has transparent shell. As with Bee-Bot, it is simple to operate; it can be activated with a switch on the bottom (a separate switch controls whether sound is enabled) and there are several buttons on the back, including “go”, “pause,” “reset,” and four directional buttons (forward, backward, and turn right/left). “Programming” Blue-Bot is an extremely simple affair: children can push the directional buttons in any order to input a sequence of up to 200 movement commands. Once those have been inputted, the robot can start the sequence with a press of the “go” button. Pressing the “pause” button stops the robot in its tracks, and pressing the “reset” button stops the robot and erases the stored sequence. However, the buttons aren’t the only way to control the robot anymore; children equipped with a compatible Bluetooth-enabled device, and the Blue-Bot app, can control and program the vehicle just as easily as if they were pressing the physical buttons on the robot. In fact, they can even access some new functionality, such as 45-degree turns, and they can also save up to nine programs on their device for later use. Additionally, through the “remote control” app also available, children can control the Blue-Bot in real time. With the additional capabilities offered with Blue-Bot, children can expand their exploration of the basics of programming.
