Bee-Bot is a colorful, bumblebee-looking robot designed for children ages three and up. The Bee-Bot box contains a USB charger cable and a ready-made Bee-Bot. Bee-Bot can be activated with a switch on the bottom (a separate switch controls whether sound is enabled) and there are several buttons on the back, including “go”, “pause,” “reset,” and four directional buttons (forward, backward, and turn right/left). Programming the Bee-Bot is an extremely simple affair: children can push the directional buttons in any order to input a sequence of up to 40 movement commands. Once those have been inputted, the robot can start the sequence with a press of the “go” button. Pressing the “pause” button stops the robot in its tracks, and pressing the “reset” button stops the robot and erases the stored sequence. It is recommended that children use Bee-Bot on hard, smooth surfaces to ensure accurate movements. Parents can easily integrate Bee-Bot into other activities, such as drawing out a maze and having their child program Bee-Bot to travel through it, or attaching a cargo to Bee-Bot’s rear hook and asking their child to “deliver” it from point A to point B. Because Bee-Bot has a 7-button control system, it is extremely easy to use. Bee-Bot serves as a great introduction to sequential algorithm design and execution, all wrapped up in a colorful, sensory package perfect for young children. By pushing buttons on the back of their Bee-Bot, children learn basic programming skills and problem solving.
