Engineering Ants is a cooperative building board game that allows children to explore simple STEM concepts as they collaborate with each other to solve problems. Included in the game is a fold-up game board, 1 Engineering Ants Mover, 1 Anteater Mover, 36 building material pieces, 36 hardware pieces, 18 Obstacle Cards, and 1 die. In order to win, players must work as a team to build solutions to the obstacles presented in the game to free the three trapped ants - before the anteater gets to the anthill! When players receive a Face-Up or Face-Down obstacle, they must devise a solution using the different pieces provided. Each obstacle pushes children to use their imagination to find a solution to make it past the obstacle to continue in the game or aid a team member. This creates a strong sense of teamwork and unity, which are major factors in any successful engineering team. This is emphasized through the cooperative game concept, as it promotes learning and cooperative spirit between the 2 to 4 players. In addition, children gain an understanding of how to plan and execute solutions to different problems. When presented with a ‘Giant Waterfall’ or ‘Piranhas,’ players must consider alternative solutions that could be created to overcome the obstacle, based on limited types of pieces they have to work with. Overall, this game is a quick and fun learning tool that both children and parents will love returning to again and again!
