Cassandra McCormack is a current PhD student in GROUPER. She graduated from Purdue University with a BS in Industrial Engineering and a minor in Psychology in 2019. In 2021, she received an MS in Industrial Engineering, with her thesis presenting a case design of the information architecture and user experience elements of an adaptable online learning environment designed for a systems engineering course. Her research interests focus on taking a systems approach to the design and evaluation of interfaces in complex system environments, including both healthcare and education systems. Her dissertation topic explores the design and evaluation of wearable medical devices that continuously monitor biomarkers to support patient self-care and decision-making.

While completing my bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering at California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo, I was actively involved in student projects ranging from test driving a prototype solar car, training and performing with Cal Poly's dance company, leading a Venus rover design team, and organizing outreach events for local middle schools. These experiences culminated my love for researching odd problems and working in a collaborative environment whether that be with other students on a project, choreographers and dancers, or youth communities interested in STEM. Coming to Purdue I found my outlet for exploring complex and unprecedented problems. My Master's is focused in Astrodynamics and Space Applications with a minor in Aerospace Systems. My PhD research will be focused on analyzing human-system interactions in complex, collaborative and high-risk environments and applications to designing safe human space exploration.

My current academic research interests lie in inclusive and accessible technologies and understanding User Experience in Extended Reality (AR/VR). I am passionate about applying collaborative approaches, critical thinking, creativity, and self-motivation to the design of innovative and inclusive technologies. Long-term, I aim to build products that improve users' quality of life by designing user-centered products.
