The Engineering Success Center (ESC) is a transformative space where engineering students are empowered to take ownership of their educational journey. At its core, the ESC seeks to bridge the knowledge gap between faculty learning expectations and student performance by fostering a culture of learning and collaboration through peer-to-peer engagement, academic networking and meaningful faculty-student interactions. Through these interactions, students will cultivate critical thinking skills as well as deepen conceptual understanding of course subjects deemed critical to their academic success. In addition, the ESC will equip students with the academic tools and strategies (efficient study habits, effective test-taking practices, etc.) necessary for overcoming common academic obstacles for engineering majors. ESC is your launchpad to engineering success.

Tutoring program

ESC's dynamic tutoring program offers individual and group tutoring sessions for foundational and targeted engineering courses. The sessions, tailored for engineering students, are designed to promote enhanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills as well as deep conceptual understanding of covered topics. Our ESC-trained tutors serve as academic guides, helping students to develop the skills and confidence needed to succeed in a rigorous academic environment. Students may walk in or plan their visit ahead of time.

Tutoring is available in person in the Engineering Success Center, located in Room 2235 in Lambertus Hall, and online and is free to all students.

Mission Modules: Engineering Concept Workshops

Students can strengthen problem-solving skills and overall confidence through workshops. The series is designed to bring engineering students and faculty together for an in-depth exploration of challenging course concepts. The interactive setting thrusts students beyond the classroom lecture materials, creating a space for open dialogue, hands-on problem-solving and connection to real-world engineering applications.

Exam Preparation Sessions

Incorporate Exam Preparation Sessions into your study routine. The sessions aim to offer access to additional problem-solving and exam preparation and review strategies for upcoming exams. They are facilitated by faculty, teaching assistants and/or supplemental instructors.

Our program sponsors exam preparation sessions for courses that have been identified through qualitative and quantitative studies to negatively impact the success outcomes of our program participants. The sessions aim to offer access to alternative teaching styles, smaller learning environments and additional exposure to course content to increase the student’s self-efficacy going into exams.

Course support will vary; however, the fall sessions will typically include support for MA 16100/16500 and CHEM 11500. Follow the undergraduate engineering Instagram for updates.

If you have questions or would like to share feedback about your experience in the center or for inquiries about employment opportunities, send an email to the Engineering Success Center (engrsc@purdue.edu).
