Purdue Engineering needs to do a better job of creating change, urgently. As we discuss how to improve the experience of Black Students, the diversity of the student body, and the inclusivity of Purdue Engineering, both long-term and short-term solutions need to be considered - with equal importance. Secondly, Purdue Engineering should be transparent and vulnerable as we - the student body and Purdue Engineering Admin - are teaming up to create a more inclusive and diverse community.

What does vulnerability mean? Being vulnerable means that as we work towards our goals we are comfortable with the reality that we may mess up; and being transparent means regardless of that possibility, everyone involved will continue to be engaged and committed to finding a solution because open and honest communication is the foundation of in creating a strong community. Additionally, both of these actions will create trust and reinforce that Purdue Engineering and the student body is walking hand in hand as we move forward.
