Purdue Engineering to Raise Stipends for PhD Students

by College of Engineering

Graduate Education

The College of Engineering, with support from its schools and the University, is taking actions to increase College-wide minimum and median PhD student assistantship stipend levels.

The planned stipend elevation will be implemented during the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 fiscal years. These actions represent initial steps toward stipend augmentation; the College will continue to evaluate stipend levels on a regular basis with the intent of furthering the level of competitiveness.

THE INCREASES WILL SUPPORT THE FOLLOWING OBJECTIVES WITHIN THE COLLEGE:

  • Recruit and retain talented PhD students to support the College’s research and instructional missions.
  • Enhance discipline-specific stipend competitiveness with top-ranked peers.
  • Ensure that stipends are compatible with cost-of-living increases.
