Congratulations to Professor Kerrie Douglas, recipient of the 2026 American Society for Engineering Education Chester F. Carlson Award. The award recognizes innovators who advance educational practice through new methods, technologies, and ideas.

ENE's Justin Hess is one of six individuals this year to receive a Walk the Talk Award, which recognizes members of the Purdue University community who exemplify integrity through their actions, champion ethical practices, and demonstrate a strong commitment to Purdue's Statement of Integrity and Code of Conduct.

ENE's Kirsten Davis, Beatriz Galarza Tohen, Justin Hess, Brent Jesiek, and Jason Morphew were named among the Purdue College of Engineering Outstanding Engineering Teachers for the spring of 2026. This recognition honors faculty who achieved top teaching evaluation scores, reflecting their commitment to instructional excellence and student success across engineering education.

From hands-on STEM learning tools to biomedical imaging and adaptive sports technology, student teams unveiled innovative, real-world solutions developed through Purdue’s Multidisciplinary Engineering Capstone experience. These projects reflect months of research, prototyping, and collaboration across disciplines, tackling complex challenges with practical impact. The showcase highlights how students translate classroom knowledge into functional designs while preparing for careers in engineering, innovation, and problem-solving.

The Purdue University Board of Trustees has approved promotions to full professor for Engineering Education faculty Jennifer DeBoer and Kerrie Douglas. Both are leaders in advancing research and innovation in engineering education—spanning global learning, online education, and assessment practices that support student success. Their promotions reflect continued excellence in scholarship, teaching, and impact across the field.

Two Interdisciplinary Engineering alumni are being recognized for their exceptional career achievements. Christopher Somogyi (’81) and Richard Gemeinhart (’94) have built impactful careers across biotechnology, innovation, and pharmaceutical science, demonstrating the value of interdisciplinary thinking. They were honored at the Purdue School of Engineering Education’s Awards Banquet on April 7, 2026.

Three exceptional teaching partners from across Purdue have been recognized for their outstanding impact on Multidisciplinary Engineering (MDE) and Interdisciplinary Engineering Studies (IDES) students. Honored as “one of the best of the best in teaching,” these collaborators exemplify how cross-campus partnerships strengthen interdisciplinary education and student success.

The Purdue University Board of Trustees ratified Professor Tamara Moore's appointment as the new Purdue ENE Crowley Family Professor of Engineering Education, succeeding Audeen Fentiman in that role. Moore joined the faculty in 2013, and serves as executive co-director of Purdue’s INSPIRE Research Institute for Pre-College Engineering, director of SCALE K-12, and the curriculum director for SCALE.

Professor and Interim Head Joyce Main will lead Purdue ENE as the Kamyar Haghighi Head of the School of Engineering Education, building on its pioneering legacy and advancing the future of the field. Her vision centers on celebrating its people, strengthening research and innovative teaching, and launching new ABET-accredited Multidisciplinary Engineering and liberal arts pathways.
