Interdisciplinary Engineering Studies is for students who want an engineering education but do not plan to practice engineering. Coursework ranges from preparation for medical school to exploring general engineering interests.

Alumnus Highlight: Corey Jorman, IDE '06
Alumnus Corey Jorman is a patent attorney who holds two non-AAE bachelor’s degrees and a JD in intellectual property. He “harvests inventors,” as he puts it—meeting with leaders of cutting-edge companies around the world to evaluate their intellectual property for possible future use. Read more

Pre-Medical Engineering Studies
Pre-Medical Engineering students are preparing for graduate study and eventual careers as Medical Doctors. These students are able to utilize their engineering background to understand the mechanics and processes of the musculoskeletal system, beyond a typical Pre-Medical plan of study. Curricula may include coursework in engineering, biology, chemistry, anatomy, and physiology. Students can select courses that will prepare them for the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT).
Alumna Highlight: Abhipri Mishra, IDES '19, Pre-Medical Engineering Studies
When asked how our degree program prepared her for her first year in medical school at Indiana University School of Medicine, Abhi Mishra said, "My background in IDES brought in a unique perspective when discussing issues about healthcare quality and accessibility, medical devices, and pharmaceuticals." Abhi also was a recipient of our academic award of excellence for both her junior and senior year.
