Dear MSE students,
Welcome to the new academic year, after what I hope was a pleasant and productive summer.
I’m especially pleased to congratulate all of our incoming students and postdocs for joining Purdue Materials. This includes 30 new graduate students, and 86 undergraduates new to Materials Engineering—our biggest incoming class ever! You are joining a thriving program, with award winning faculty and staff devoted to your success.
Whether you’re about to graduate, or new to the School of Materials, I hope you will drop in on one of my office hours reserved purely for students. Come by to chat, talk materials, share your suggestions and concerns, or just enjoy the random treats I’ll be offering (Arms 2301, near the front desk).

  *   4-5 on the 1st Thursday of each month (starting 9/4).
  *   12-1 on the 3rd Wednesday of each month (starting 9/17).
  *   Of course private meetings can be arranged when necessary.

Finally, remember to watch for important announcements from our advisors, administrators, faculty, student clubs, the MSE department digest, and this email list. If we’re reaching out, it’s worth your attention—we’re talking internships and jobs, important deadlines, special seminars, etc.
