[Me-indy-faculty] Important: lab moving and student spae

Dear ME-Indy Colleagues,

We appreciate many of you for your efforts to prepare for the upcoming lab move.

The moving company will pick up chemicals this Thursday (03/27) and will do the moving from next Monday morning (03/31). All the moves will be completed next week.

Most of the groups did not request storage space so far. The school will NOT sign lease with rental facilities if there is no such need.

Important: graduate students and postdocs are NOT allowed to have desk spaces in research labs. Every PI please request desk space for your students/postdocs from the following link.

You are reminded that this application is required every year from now on even for space renewal. We only work with PIs so please do NOT send this link to students. At West Lafayette, the school assigns certain number of desks to each PI who submits the request. Most WL groups need to create an internal sharing mechanism within the group to maximize the space use – this is pursued by the university. The school is asked to monitor the usage and claim back any space, if it is not correctly used, in middle of the year.

At West Lafayette, the priority is given to postdocs and graduate students with RA supports. The school will NOT assign desk spaces to undergraduate students.

This practice has been in place for several years at West Lafayette, and we are duplicating this model to ME-Indy now.

The current plan for Indy is to assign ME graduate students and postdocs to graduate hub immediately after the lab moving to minimize the disturbance to research. So please fill in the request by this Friday (03/28). The assignment decision will be sent to the PI after all requests are reviewed.

We are waiting for the access control procedure for labs/offices from Purdue Administrative Operation (AO). I will send out another email with checklists for check in and check out keys, once I get them from AO.
