Hello ME Faculty!
Just a few reminders on ME policies as Sp'25 registration opened yesterday (Oct 14):
All research-based students are required to register for research credits, every semester registered. The quantity of credits, needs to come about from a discussion with you and your student as to what is expected that semester, so it can vary from semester to semester. You should highly encourage your students to get registered in research before the semester starts, so the 2-step registration process, is a one-step approval process for you in the system. You should have also received an email today on sp'25 research registration issues from Cathy, so please make sure to read that as well and let us know if you have any questions.
All research-based students are required to be funded, and funded students must register full-time each semester.
All new students are required to submit their initial plan of study by the 6th week of their first semester, so they should be working on securing their advisory committee as soon as possible to meet that deadline.
All persons in your research lab need to be either a funded graduate student, an undergrad taking research for credit, or a Purdue employee (post doc or research engineer). Volunteers are not allowed in the research lab. If you have questions on the hiring process, please let us know.
ME does not offer part-time programs, other than the online Master's non-thesis program. Any current part-time research-based student will need to transition to full time next year or will need to transfer to an online Master's or doctoral program. Master's students have a maximum time to degree limit of 3 years, PhD students 6 years, and D-PhD students 7 years. Please remember that PhD & D-PhD students must register for two semesters between their prelim semester and their final semester, so help them plan accordingly so they can stay within the time to degree limits.
The ME grad office is here to assist all grad students and all ME faculty, including those based in Indianapolis, on any grad-student related items. Please email Xiaomin Qian<mailto:xiaomin at purdue.edu> for any admission/application questions/concerns, or Sheri Tague<mailto:sltague at purdue.edu> for any current student related questions/concerns. Please encourage your students to email the general ME Grad office inbox, megradoffice at purdue.edu<mailto:megradoffice at purdue.edu> or stop in on any of our established virtual office hours (posted on the ME grad blog), so they get accurate information.
Have a wonderful day!
