Risk Analysis

As your team progresses through the design process, it is important to consider the risks of your project. While industry teams may focus on many types of risk, such as business or operational risks, student teams tend to focus primarily on safety risks in the context of design. One of the most common methods of assessing design risks is the Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (dFMEA). 'Failure modes' refers to the ways or modes that the design might fail, where 'Effects analysis' is an evaluation of the immediate consequences of those failures. In performing a systematic review of risks, teams should work through each element of their project and use environment and as a team consider what could go wrong. Each of these failure modes can then be scored on their relative severity, likelihood, and detectability to obtain a risk score. Teams should then design around the high risk items to reduce their risk to an acceptable level before proceeding with project delivery.

Student-Driven Recruiting - Attention Communication Officers - Due Oct 25

  *   All teams are expected to generate a 'help wanted' poster to recruit for your team.
     *   This effort should be led by the Communication Officer and Project Manager.
     *   A template is attached, but it can be altered or replaced to suit your team.
     *   A PDF of the posters are due to the EPICS office by close of business Oct 25.
  *   Communications Officers will be asked to post the flyers in the appropriate buildings following approval from the EPICS staff.
