Hello Everyone,
The tragic event that occurred yesterday affected all of us and I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that an emergency requiring sheltering in place doesn't mean only weather related events, but also a HazMat event such as (accidental) hazardous materials release/spill, or even a shooter/bomber. Those of you who recently attended a mandatory safety awareness training session, will remember that I mention this during the safety training.
Our Shelter in Place location is the basement of both wings of the building, and can be reached via the staircases located in the atrium and those located adjacent to the exits facing the Physics Building, Civil Engineering Building and the Engineering Mall. However, in an incident that involves shooting, people should stay in their office or a secure place, away from windows, turn the lights down and lock the door.
Please visit our website (https://engineering.purdue.edu/ChE/AboutUs/Safety.html), and under the Emergency Preparedness section you will find (among other useful information) a link to a short video (20 minutes) meant as training material for situations like the one we experienced yesterday ("Shots Fired on Campus: When Lightning Strikes"<https://www.purdue.edu/securepurdue/news/2008/emergency-preparedness-shots-fired-on-campus-video.cfm>).
If you are not already subscribed to Purdue's "ALERT" notification system, I strongly advise you to subscribe as soon as possible. This makes sure you are notified of emergency situations that occur on campus, via text message and email. Please see below the link and instructions on how to subscribe for this notification system:
