Hi everyone,
It is the season of elections. We also need to conduct our annual election to the FGC. This year, we will be electing representatives from Construction, Environmental, Hydraulics/Hydrology, Materials and Transportation for 2-year terms.
Representatives need to be full-time tenured faculty members with at least a 50% appointment in the School of Civil Engineering. I am sending email to everyone, as I cannot edit the list (including assistant professors, who don't need to respond). If you are or plan to be on sabbatical, please include this information in your response.
According to our process, by default, anyone receiving this email who is eligible, but does NOT want to be considered needs to indicate so by responding to Brad and me via email indicating "do not consider me". The deadline for responding is Monday, August 25. Brad and I will send out the first round of candidates to the faculty to start the voting on Wednesday, Aug 27.
Additional information regarding the Committee composition and are below my signature.
Thanks!
Melba

Faculty Governance Committee
Committee Responsibilities. The Lyles School of Civil and Construction Engineering (LSCCE) Faculty Governance Committee (FGC) will work with the School Head to establish and review policies and strategies of the mission of LSCCE, the FGC will propose the formation of sub-committees as deemed necessary. The FGC shall engage the faculty in various ways, including, but not limited to, appointment of faculty to sub-committees, conducting FGC meetings, and reporting at faculty meetings. Meetings of the FGC shall be open to the LSCCE faculty except when an executive session is declared. Of note, voting by the entire faculty is required for changes related to curricula, course content, instructional and examination procedures, and undergraduate degree requirements.
Committee Membership. The FGC shall be composed of full-time faculty members with at least a 50% appointment in the Lyles School of Civil and Construction Engineering, one from each of the specialty areas of the School, and one at-large member. All members of the committee shall have one vote. Members of the committee shall be elected for two years. Elections shall be conducted to provide for staggered terms. In even years, there shall be a vote for five seats, of which the at-large member is one, and in odd years, for the remaining five seats. Every year, at the start of the fall semester, the Faculty Affairs Committee (FAC) representative shall conduct an election. The entire voting faculty (tenured, tenure-track, research faculty, and faculty of engineering practice) shall be eligible to vote to fill vacating seats on the FGC. The at-large member shall be elected from the entire faculty and selected as the individual receiving the highest number of votes who was not elected from one of the specialty groups. Anyone wishing to not serve as a member of the FGC shall indicate their intent prior to the election. A member can be reelected, but typically for no more than two consecutive terms. Terms shall begin at the first meeting of the FGC after elections are completed. In the event that a member cannot complete his or her term, a special election shall be held to fill this vacancy for the remainder of the term. Each year, the FGC shall elect its chair in the meeting after elections are completed. The chair shall be selected from the elected members of the FGC and will be responsible for reporting to the faculty about FGC activities at faculty meetings.
