Subject: Invitation for Nominations - Neil Armstrong Distinguished Visiting Professor (NADVP)

Engineering Heads,

Please find attached a memo from Luna Lu renewing the call for nominations for the Neil Armstrong Distinguished Visiting Professors<https://engineering.purdue.edu/NADVP> to forward to your faculty. The nomination window is open starting today through Oct 25, 2024. If you are supportive of a nomination from a faculty member/group of faculty, please forward it to us within this time window.

Please review the details in the attachment including eligibility and Unit commitments. A few key points:

1.       Nominees should have been recognized for their impact and achievements in engineering or related disciplines at a level comparable to membership in the US National Academy of Engineering (NAE). Purdue University is an EOE/AA employer. As such, the nomination of all individuals, including minorities, women, individuals with disabilities, and veterans is strongly encouraged.

2.       Nominees are not supposed to know of their nomination, although the nominators should have a general sense that the nominees, if invited, will have a reasonable chance of accepting the invitation.

3.       The College provides a competitive salary to the NADVP and provides some support to the faculty host(s) to support the collaborative research.

4.       The cumulative duration of the appointment will be between a minimum of one month to a maximum of three months, and can be undertaken in the course of multiple visits beginning in the summer or fall of 2025, but must be completed within three years. Exceptions to this visitation period will be considered on a case-by-case basis. A standard visit is expected to be one month per year over three years.

5.       The host unit provides transportation and lodging costs for the NADVP's visits to Purdue.

6.       In addition to research collaborations at Purdue, the hosting unit is expected to organize high-visibility colloquia/workshops during the visit of the NADVP (we will providing the branding template).
