Dear Birck Users,
Earlier today an engineering staff member observed a graduate student rinsing a beaker with the isopropanol squirt bottle directly into the drain in a photoresist hood, putting organic solvent directly into the wastewater system. We critically remind users that NO organic solvents are permitted down the drain whatsoever, no exceptions. This user was under the impression IPA was acceptable, and this is not the case. Organic solvents are to be poured into the appropriate non-halogenated or halogenated solvent waste bottle, and the bottle is to be labeled with the volume of the material added to it. NONE of this organic material is to be poured down the drain, regardless of where the drain is, as this will damage our Birck drain system. Please adhere to these standard Birck solvent waste practices completely and immediately.
