Quantum Game Club

[cid:image002.png at 01D7AE36.E9921150]Hello Students,
We are establishing a new effort on quantum education and programming in collaboration with Microsoft Azure. The effort is led by Prof. Mahdi Hosseini in ECE. If you are an ECE, Physics or CS student with an interest in quantum computing and quantum algorithms please consider joining the Quantum Game Club. As a member of the Quantum Game Club you will learn how to design your own quantum algorithms. You will use these skills to develop games that will be run on real quantum hardware! No experience or prior knowledge required. We will provide you with resources to begin developing your own algorithms. Research credits and Innovation Prizes will be available to engaged students.

The first meeting of the Quantum Game Club is on September 23rd from 6-7pm. Please join to learn more.

If you are interested, please contact Hal Owens (owens155 at purdue.edu<mailto:owens155 at purdue.edu>) for the link to our first meeting.

 NSAC Coffee Hour

In-person Coffee Hour talk: Birck 1st floor atrium every Friday 2pm.

During the talk, one student speaker will present his/her recent research. Individually packed snacks and coffee will be provided to help us digest the talk

NSAC Fab Forum

In-person Fab Forum: Birck 1st floor atrium every Tuesday 2pm.

During the event, students can come and discuss their issues in fabrication and experiments. Individually packed snacks and coffee will be provided to help us digest the conversation.

Birck Nanotechnology Center Advanced Capabilities

[cid:image003.png at 01D7AE36.E9921150] Themis Z Aberration Corrected STEM/TEM
Features:

  * Atomic resolution down to 65 pm in both TEM and STEM mode as the column contains a probe and image corrector
  * Monochromatic gun + EELS spectrometer, which combine deliver an energy resolution of 120 meV at 80kV - great for plasmons and oxidation state studies
  * SuperX EDX detector, high signal to noise ration due to a 4-quadrant detector set up
  * Flexible high tension range: 300, 200, 80, 60kV. Lower kVs are ideal for electron-beam sensitive samples

Graduate Research Assistantship Opportunity:
Deposited Gate Oxides for SiC MOSFETs

Graduate research assistantships are available in the area of silicon carbide metal-oxide-semiconductor (MOS) devices. SiC is a wide bandgap semiconductor with a high critical field, making it an exciting material for power electronic devices. SiC MOSFETs are now commercially available, but do not yet achieve their full potential. Our group is approaching this problem from several directions, including a new device trench MOSFET geometries inspired by modern FinFETs and alternative gate insulator fabrication methods.

Research activities will include fabrication and characterization of SiC MOS capacitors and MOSFETs with gate oxides formed by thermal oxidation, atomic layer deposition (ALD), and other methods. The student will gain a detailed understanding of the physics of the MOS interface and will learn various methods of characterizing devices, including MOS CV analysis, interface state density and carrier mobility.

Opening in OxideMEMS lab

Sunil Bhave's OxideMEMS Lab <https://engineering.purdue.edu/oxidemems/publications.html> explores inter-domain coupling in Opto-mechanical, Spin-Acoustic and Atom-MEMS devices. PhD, Postdoctoral and Research Associate positions are available in these areas:

* Superconducting qubit and cryo-CMOS circuits
*      Resonators and switches
*      MEMS-engine for LIDAR
*      Piezo-on-nitride transducers for atom-mechanics
Expertise in many and most of Microfabrication, PiezoMEMS, Photonics, Quantum Mechanics, Microwave circuits, PCB design, ADS/HFSS, Comsol, Python and Labview is required.
