  * Direct physical milling of thin and thick films using argon atoms.
  * Water-cooled rotating sample carrier can be oriented 0-90 degrees from normal beam incidence.
  * Secondary ion mass spectrometer (SIMS) mounted on the system can be used for manual or automatic endpoint detection (EPD)

Other Capabilities:

* Ion beam source : inductively-coupled argon plasma, accelerated up to 900 V in a 14cm broad beam with currents up to 620 mA (Kaufman & Robinson, Inc.).

* Ar+ ions neutralized using a matched electron beam current before reaching the sample.

* Sample load-lock system saves time with processing

Welcome to Birck!

The faculty and staff at the Birck Nanotechnology Center extend a warm welcome to all our new users who are coming to do research in the Summer & Fall. We are enjoying a large number of new users at our state-of-the-art research center and we hope your experience here is both fulfilling and rewarding! Our mission is to help you succeed in your research as you learn processing and analytical techniques that will broaden and enhance your skill set, leading you to become a seasoned scientist and/or engineer. Please don't hesitate to reach out to any one of us if you have a question, or concern, or idea to improve our operations. We're glad you're here, and we welcome you to the Birck research center family!

Opening in OxideMEMS lab

Sunil Bhave's OxideMEMS Lab <https://engineering.purdue.edu/oxidemems/publications.html> explores inter-domain coupling in Opto-mechanical, Spin-Acoustic and Atom-MEMS devices. PhD, Postdoctoral and Research Associate positions are available in these areas:

* Superconducting qubit and cryo-CMOS circuits
*      Resonators and switches
*      MEMS-engine for LIDAR
*      Piezo-on-nitride transducers for atom-mechanics
Expertise in many and most of Microfabrication, PiezoMEMS, Photonics, Quantum Mechanics, Microwave circuits, PCB design, ADS/HFSS, Comsol, Python and Labview is required.
Please send CV to bhave at purdue.edu<mailto:bhave at purdue.edu> if you are interested.link<http://interested.link>

RA Position at Birck

FIB training and assistance and EM maintenance support

The Birck Nanotechnology Center is looking for a Grad student with experience in scanning electron microscopy and focused ion beam to assist 20 hrs a week with the FIB at BNC - Helios 4G UX

The responsibilities will be but not limited:

1. Provide FIB services - TEM sample preparation, patterning, cross section imaging and EDX chemical analysis - to BNC and industrial users using the FIB Helios 4G UX

2. Manage the reception of samples and analysis instructions from Birck users

3. Training new users in the FIB Helios 4G

4. Align the FIB monthly and make sure the system is working properly.

5. Provide assistance to users remotely in case an issue arises.

6. Manage the training and services request for FIB in Ilab and provide metrics every week.

7. Training new users in the Nanomill ion polisher, PIPS, and mechanical polisher.

8. Have great disposition, excellent communication skills, and ability to solve problems when providing services or trainings

9. Provide maintenance and support to the EM instrumentation

10. Prepare material for promoting the EM core in social media.

Because of the nature of our Industrial clients, the successful candidate needs to have export control clearance. Also, hours could be negotiable but the successful candidate needs to be available from Tuesday until Saturday to work at BNC.

Please send your resume and two letters of recommendation to rdiazri at purdue.edu<mailto:rdiazri at purdue.edu>.
