BNC Preventive Maintenance Shutdown: Sunday, 05.02.10, 10PM, to Friday, 05.07.10, 3PM. Six-week notice.
The BNC will be shut down during the week of May 2 for preventive and corrective maintenance activities. This shutdown will be more extensive than previous shutdowns – major electrical work will take place that will shut down electrical power to the building during the early morning hours of May 3. It is expected that this work will be complete prior to 8:00 AM on Monday, May 3.
Please note that the cleanroom and the building exhaust systems will be down for the entire week. No chemicals or hazardous gases may be used during this period.
[ Tentative Schedule ]
Possible Vibration at BNC
Work is commencing on the enclosure for the Acid-Waste Neutralization (AWN) system. While the impact on any operations at BNC should be minimal, there will be some activities early in the project that could cause some vibration.
This activity will take place at the southwest corner of the BNC. This work will be done on concrete that is not connected to the BNC – any vibration would be transmitted through the ground. The closest vibration-sensitive equipment is the Vistec e-beam writer, about 35 feet away. Next would be the Titan TEM and the Raith e-beam, both about 175 feet away.
Weather permitting, the work will begin next Thursday, 22 April 2010, and last until the following Wednesday, 28 April 2010. Most of the activities will involve saw cutting, which should have no vibration impact. In some cases, however, a jackhammer will be used, and in all cases a backhoe and/or front loader will be used for the concrete removal. A more detailed schedule follows.
Work will take place from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM weekdays. No work will take place on weekends.
Please contact Mark Voorhis if you experience any vibration-related issues.
Thank you for your understanding during this necessary construction effort.
Recycling
The facilities staff has placed recycling bins at the end of each wing inside the galleys. Since it is the end of the semester and some of you are cleaning your offices, we are placing them there for your convenience. Please let us know if you have filled any of them and we will get it replaced as soon as possible. These will be going back to Purdue Recycling in a couple of weeks.
If you have any confidential recycling, we can get you a confidential recycling bin.
Contact Mary Jo Totten or Se'Andra Donaldson for assistance.
