The Coral program is up. You will need to login and reset your
remote password. Instructions are below. If after resetting your
remote password you have problems, please email coral at ecn.purdue.edu

Quick-Start Instructions for Coral Software
Accessing the program the first time.
1. Solaris or Sunray
Login to you the computer:
Start Console
In the Console window, type: ssh reef
Then type: coral
2. Mac OS X
Launch x11, Applications->Utilities->x11
ssh –Y yourlogin at reef.ecn.purdue.edu
ex. ssh –Y jcoy at reef.ecn.purdue.edu
type coral
3. Windows XP (ECN supported computers) *see notes below
Start Menu->ECN software->Cygwin->Start x-server
Then
Start Menu->ECN software->SecureCRT->Hosts
Select reef.ecn.purdue.edu from the host list ** see notes below
Login normally with your career account
Type coral
You can always use the above methods to connect to Coral!
From the web (after first time):
Access to Coral from the web is possible after confirming your career
account password in the Coral system. You must first login using
one of the methods above, then select ‘Remote Password’ from the
Window menu.
You can then access Coral using the link:
http://reef.ecn.purdue.edu/coral/etc/coral.jnlp
Reservations:
1. Select the equipment from the equipment tree on the left by
clicking on it.
Highlight the time slot you would like to use.
Under the Reservation Actions menu, select “Make”
Choose the account and project you would like to use.
To cancel a reservation, select the reservation and chose “Delete”
from the Reservation Actions menu. Note: Equipment you are
qualified on will have an asterisk next to it.
Using Equipment & Billing:
Coral is now the billing method for all equipment in Birck!
Logsheets for process are still to be used. ***
To initialize the system before use:
Select the equipment you want to use.
Under the Equipment Actions menu, select enable
This starts the equipment use and is equivalent to signing in on a
billing sheet.
Use the equipment.
When you are finished with the equipment, select disable from the
Equipment Actions menu.
Note: For systems without a dedicated computer, (ie, the aligners or
metal dep systems) you should enable the equipment on one of the
common computers or Sunray stations.
Equipment Trouble Reporting
If you need to report an equipment problem to the staff:
Select the equipment in Coral. Under the Equipment Actions menu,
select the appropriate level of notification. **** see notes below
Make comment: This is for when you need to communicate with the
staff about a non-critical equipment issue. (ie. Metal in crucible
is running low)
Report problem: This will change the stoplight to yellow. It is for
equipment that is not performing at 100%, but is still usable.
(ie. System takes an unusually long time to pump)
Shutdown: This will change the stoplight to RED. It is for
equipment that is not functional. (ie. The filament burned out.)
Notes:
*For non-ECN supported computers, some type of x11 forwarding
software is required. See Purdue software downloads for available
licensed software.
**If reef.ecn.purdue.edu is not in the host list, submit a trouble
report to ecn.
***The temporary billing sheets are only for time when Coral is
unavailable.
****Coral will automatically email the staff responsible for the
equipment using this feature. There is no need to send duplicate email.
