1.1: Monday Memo items to appear on-line

Visit http://nano.purdue.edu/ where you¹ll be directed to the Discovery Park
home page, select ³Nanotechnology² from the DP Centers drop-down menu.
Several pieces of this weekly memo have migrated to the Birck website. As
additional pages are created, all items will soon appear there, which will
decrease the amount of BNC-all messages being sent.

1.2: Cleanroom Preventive Maintenance scheduled for May 1-2, 2007

Per Mark Voorhis, a 48-hour shut down of cleanroom operations has been
scheduled to complete a six-month preventive maintenance procedure. The
shutdown of cleanroom operations will begin on Tuesday (1-May-07) at 7:00 AM
and will be completed by Wednesday (2-May-07) at 5:00 PM. Maintenance is
required for BNC cleanroom makeup air handlers and chemical exhaust. During
this time, the BNC Staff will also complete cleanroom troubleshooting to
improve temperature repeatability. Toxic gases will be shutdown to the
entire building for the duration of this procedure.

Since the chemical exhaust system for the cleanroom will be shut down please
remove chemicals from all hoods in the cleanroom prior to the shutdown. If
not removed by 9PM Monday evening, the lab staff will dispose of them for
you.

**NOTE**: Contrary to our earlier notices released on behalf of the lab
staff, the Ultra Pure Water (UPW) System will not be shut down for
maintenance. All Laboratory Hoods and Laboratory UPW are UNAFFECTED by this
shutdown.

Thank you for your understanding and patience during this necessary
procedure. If you have any questions or concerns please Mark Voorhis
(mvoorhis at purdue.edu)

1.3: Birck will NOT be sponsoring a volleyball team for this year¹s Spring
Fling, as previously announced.

1.4: New Call for Research in Patterning White Papers due Friday, May 18,
2007

OVERVIEW: GRC¹s Nanomanufacturing area is soliciting white papers in the
Patterning, Emerging Research Materials, and Nanocharacterization/Metrology
areas for work to begin January 1, 2008 for an expected three-year period.
This call for research is issued to universities worldwide. Successful
white paper authors will be invited to submit a full proposal, and a limited
number of contracts will be awarded based on these proposals according to
the schedule below. GRC may elect to negotiate a project¹s research scope
or composition to meet funding or distribution needs.

RESEARCH NEEDS: Member needs in Patterning, Emerging Research Materials,
and Nanocharacterization/Metrology, developed by a task force of SRC
industry members, are outlined in a new needs document.

WHITE PAPER GUIDELINES: Responses are limited to four pages, using at least
a 10-point font, and MUST BE SUBMITTED VIA THE SRC WEB SITE by FRIDAY, MAY
18, 3 PM EDT/12 PM PDT. White papers not meeting these requirements will be
discarded. Please include the following identifying information in your
white paper: Project title; Needs category/sub-categories addressed by your
submission; Investigator(s); University; Telephone number and e-mail
address. Please address the following topics in your white paper: Context:
emphasis area and problem to be addressed; Rationale: value in terms of
semiconductor industry needs; Novelty: role of this research in advancing
knowledge beyond the state-of-the-art; Approach: strategy for addressing the
problem; Results: anticipated output of a successful effort; Engagement: how
you now or will plan to interact with SRC member companies; Funding: a
per-year approximation of overall funding requirements (university approval
and official budgets are not required at this time); Students: involvement
and education of graduate students is a key SRC goal; typical funded
proposals will support 1-2 full time students. The extent, if any, that
this research requires the use of Background Intellectual Property.
Awardees will be expected to: Resolve any blocking Background Intellectual
Property issues before award of contract; Update information about
participating students; Submit publications resulting from sponsored
