ChE faculty to be honored at AIChE annual meeting

Two Davidson School of Chemical Engineering faculty will be honored for their contributions at the 2018 AIChE Annual Meeting on October 29 and October 30 in Pittsburgh. Dr. Doraiswami Ramakrishna, Harry Creighton Peffer Distinguished Professor of Chemical Engineering, and Dr. Gintaras Reklaitis, Burton and Kathryn Gedge Distinguished Professor of Chemical Engineering, will be honored at special sessions.

Dr. Doraiswami Ramkrishna, Harry Creighton Peffer Distinguished Professor of Chemical Engineering, and Dr. Gintaras Reklaitis, Burton and Kathryn Gedge Distinguished Professor of Chemical Engineering, will be honored at special sessions.

Professor Ramkrishna (left) will be honored for his contributions to metabolic engineering, applied mathematics, particle technology, and biopharmaceuticals; and to celebrate his 80th birthday. Four sessions are planned: 

Food, Pharmaceutical & Bioengineering Division honors Ramki’s contribution to Metabolic Engineering on Monday, October 29th, 2018, 8:00 am – 10:30 am, Somerset Westin. Speakers include: Wei-Shou Hu (U. Minnesota), Hyun-Seob Song (PNNL), Shankar Subramaniam (UCSD), Tanmay Lele (U. Florida), Terry Papoutsakis (U. Delaware).

Food, Pharmaceutical & Bioengineering Division honors Ramki’s contribution to Applied Mathematics on Monday, October 29th, 2018, 12:00 pm – 3:30 pm, Somerset Westin. Speakers include Nicholas Peppas (UT Austin), Arvind Varma (Purdue U.), Frank Doyle (Harvard U.), Sangtae Kim (Purdue U.), Pedro Arce (Tennessee Tech. U.), JB Joshi (UICT).

Separation Division honors Ramki with Area 2B Plenary Award for his contribution to Particle Technology on Monday, October 29th, 2018, 3:30 pm – 6:00 pm, 302 Convention Center. Speakers include Jamey Young (Vanderbilt U.), Eric Sherer (Louisiana Tech.), Prasad Dhurjati (U. Delaware), Jeff Varner (Cornell U.), D. Ramkrishna (Honoree).

Pharma. Disc. Dev. and Mfg. (PDDM) Division honors Ramki’s contribution to Biopharmaceuticals on Tuesday, October 30th, 2018, 8:00 am – 10:30 am, Somerset Westin. Speakers include Dhinakar Kompala (Sudhin Biopharma Co), Ramprasad Ramakrishna (Novartis), Satish Parulekar (IIT Chicago), Pankaj Doshi (Pfizer Inc.), Meenesh Singh (UIC), Nandkishor Nere (AbbVie Inc.)

Professor Reklaitis (right), the 2017 Warren K. Lewis Award winner, will be honored with invited talks presented at a special session on Tuesday, October 30, 12:30 – 3:00 pm at David L. Lawrence Convention Center, room 412. Professor Reklaitis was named the 2017 Warren K. Lewis Award winner at the annual meeting in Minneapolis. The award recognizes distinguished contributions to chemical engineering education.
