Sahan Wasala

Dr. Sahan Wasala is a Research Fellow at Trinity College Dublin, specializing in aeroacoustics, fluid dynamics, and thermal management. Based within the Department of Mechanical, Manufacturing, and Biomedical Engineering, his research focuses on aerodynamic and acoustic optimization in complex systems, with a particular emphasis on electronics cooling infrastructure.

He earned his PhD in 2017 from the University of Auckland, New Zealand, where his research focused on numerical simulations of wind turbine aeroacoustics. Following his doctorate, he completed postdoctoral research at Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden (2016-2019), studying aircraft landing gear and wing-flap noise, and at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland (2020-2022), focusing on data center JBOD system aeroacoustics. He subsequently served as an SFI RD&I Fellow at Seagate Technology in Longmont, Colorado (2022-2023).

Dr. Wasala also served as a Senior Research Scientist at Collins Aerospace (RTX) in Ireland (2023-2024). In this role, he contributed to the development of next-generation hybrid-electric regional aircraft by designing and optimizing ventilation and cabin-pressure control systems.
