Numerical model and experimental chamber with underfloor air distribution system

Advanced ventilation systems, such as Under Floor Air Distribution (UFAD) systems, can provide potential energy saving as well as indoor air quality improvements by generating partially stratified air distribution. This project studies how the floor plenum affect heat transfer and energy use in buildings with advanced ventilation systems. We use computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to determine the air stratification and EnergyPlus to do annual energy simulation. Experimental measurements in an environmental chamber will be used to obtain data for validating the computer simulation results.
