CFD simulations and experimental measurements of passenger exposure to ozone, VOCs and particles
Ozone is a major indoor air pollutant and adversely affects human health and well being. Ozone also reacts with indoor surfaces and humans (skin and clothing) to form even more harmful chemical contaminants and particles. Our study is developing a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) model to study how ozone is reacted with cabin surfaces and passengers to form chemical contaminants and particles. Experimental measurements in a stainless-steel chamber were conducted to establish and validate the CFD model The risk of exposure to the chemical contaminants and particles by the passengers and crew in airliner cabins will be assessed.
