Outdoor Airflow and Natural Ventilation in Buildings
Outdoor airflow simulated from a suburban weather station to a city center
Research Assistant: Sumei Liu
Natural ventilation can provide free cooling for buildings, but it is very difficult to design. This investigation attempts to use the weather information from a suburb weather station such as wind velocity and direction to determine airflow around a building by using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The study will be extended from the airflow around a building to the ventilation performance in an apartment in the building. Experimental measurements are being conducted to obtain crucial information for validating the simulated results.
