Wind Frequency

The wind frequency is the percentage of the time the wind is coming from a particular direction, and should be obtained from the nearest weather station. This data can be obtained from National Climatic Data Center. Their phone number is (828)-271-4800. There are also data available from the Indiana State Climate Office website, http://shadow.agry.purdue.edu/toolbox.html. Please note that the wind frequency data you obtain will refer to the direction from which the wind blows. Please enter the data exactly as they are, the program will use the data to estimate downwind (reverse) distances accordingly. For example, if the wind blows from the south 8% of the time, you should enter 8 for the south direction, and the program will calculate the setback distance to the north based on this data.

For users' convenience, below are some of the wind frequency data of several Indiana and Kentucky weather station locations.
