Dividing a Thesis into Parts
June 10, 2013
Mark Senn

How can I divide a thesis into parts where each part is preceded by a divider sheet?

Use, for example,

% Make the divider sheet.
\coversheet{PART I: Part 1 Title}

% Make the table of contents entry.
% There are 72.27 truept (true points, true points are
% not affected by any document magnification) per inch.
% The following line produces 6/72.27 inches of vertical space.
\addtocontents{toc}{\vspace{6truept}}
\addtocontents{toc}{\noindent Part I: Part 1 Title}

If the coversheets option is not set you'll need to change the first two lines above to

% Make the divider sheet.
\coversheets
\coversheet{PART I: Part 1 Title}
\nocoversheets
