Numbering Tables Continously

To number tables continously (i.e. not restarting with 1 in each chapter) do the following.

Get the chngctr.sty file and put it in the same directory as your thesis.

Change your

            \begin{document}
to
            \usepackage{chngcntr}
            \begin{document}
            \counterwithout{table}{chapter}

Here is a complete test input file.

            \documentclass[mgmt,chicago,dissertation]{puthesis}

            \usepackage{chngcntr}

            \begin{document}

            \counterwithout{table}{chapter}

            \listoftables

            \chapter{First Chapter}

            \begin{table}
              \caption{First table}
              \label{ta:first}
            \end{table}

            \chapter{Second Chapter}

            \begin{table}
              \caption{Second table}
              \label{ta:second}
            \end{table}

            The first table is \ref{ta:first}.
            The second tabe is \ref{ta:second}.

            \end{document}
