Jamie, as I told you, you were the one studied too hard. You didn't play, WE DID!
We did play hard.
Helen, you didn't play much. You did play a lot of basketball. At beginning,
you wanted concentrate on study, didn't join the girl's team. But the coach, with "a bad guy's face",
came to you again and again. Therefor, your yearlong outfit was navy sweater shirt and sweater pants,
plus army trench coat in the winter.:-o)
Pang-nuan(Weiqian), Ya-wa(Fu Ming)and I, sometimes Li-li(Jin Jian-Fang),
we did play a lot! We had so much interesting stories. We would laugh and laugh, until stomach hurt.
We loved san-bu, walked to every little corner of FuDan's campus.
We all liked kan-yie-shu. The best cozy time,
was right after the midterm, hid in the bed, read a hao-shu in the chilly rainy day. We fought for a good book,
after a long arguing, set up a waiting list. We didn't miss every single campus debate, stage show, concert and movie.
We loved movies! We would hop on the back of bike, rode to Wu-jiao-chang to see a movie.
Pang-nuan, were you
sitting on JianFei's "back seat" holding his cloth so tight?
I still remember, one night before the final,
FuDan auditorium was showing movie Tian-yun-shan-chuan-qi. I did want to go see it so bad but didn't have a ticket.
I walked to the side door of the auditorium, knew there must be some guy stood inside. I used my sweetest tone:"
Thank you, open the door, it's just me, no anybody else here,..." I got in! Enjoyed that movie very much. We also
went to dance a lot. I learned all my ballroom dance and Disco in FuDan. We went to roller-skate, my little brother was
the best in the group. I didn't stay in the campus on weekends at all. I had to go home. Came back on Monday morning,
loaded with food from home. We shared everything. Pang-nuan, one night after dinner, your aunt brought some fish.
It tasted so delicious! We two ate it all at once, didn't know what kind fish that was! We found out it w
as gue-yu later. This time I had song-shu-gue-yu in Shanghai, It wasn't that good.
We didn't date. Right.
I don't regret about that. Maybe because I have a wonderful husband of 15 years, two very smart, handsome sons.
But here is another story. My friend's teenage son asked her, " How many boyfriends you dated include dad?"
"One." "ONLY ONE?! How did you know he was the best one for you?!"
I left all my old pictures to my parents in Shanghai. I do have one here which I asked them sending to me while I was decorating our house. Dai Jiang took that picture. It was beautiful. It might rated R consider these years. I might send to Jamie. Maybe. I miss you all! Pang-nuan, I miss kissing your soft cheek!
Li Dong
I knew EXACTLY which photo Dong was talking about, for you guys (especially boys) missed the feast, at least for your eyes! Dong was in gymnastic suit, with a hoop-la loop, jumping into the air! the picture is the CENTER piece of her living room. Dai Jiang, well done! Helen Xu Helen, you were right. Every time when guests ask about the picture, my husband would say, once upon a time, my wife was... Thanks for your info. I'm sorry for that girl Hu. I saw her and her late husband performed
together at FuDan many times. We even met her and her parents at Qin-dao trip, at Lao-shan. I even borrowed
her ankle-high rubber boots to see a movie- because Wu-Jiao-Chang |

About that Dian-zi-wu-li's Chen, I knew him at 1st year in FuDan. That winter, we did always go to the FuDan
library for evening study. We left a notebook on the table, holding a seat for ever... Chen did the same, sat cross
the table from me. He studied hard, not like us reading a lot of magazine. He was a Qin-xiu boy. After a while,
I had a little thought about him. I knew a Dian-zi-wu-li's teacher Wang-pang-zi well, asked Wang about
Chen,
Wang said Chen already has a girlfriend...DON'T tell this to Chen's wife, Helen!

Read Dong's email 2nd time, it just dawned on me that she had a crush on someone back in college! Alright, any more confess???

Hi folks, here I am, continue the story telling.
Dai Jiang, this time is special for you! And Jamie, I'll quit my job someday when my story book published.
Dai Jiang, I heard you and DongWei, plus bunch of our classmates partied together, I wish I was there too! I want to join the laughing! You and DongWei were Jay Leno and David Letterman of our class, two funny guys! Do you still remember, one evening, we went to newly-weds Helen and Lu's new apartment together, Nao-xin-fang. Fu Ming and Li Nan were there too. You and DongWei were behaving "very very badly". You two were telling all the jokes, funny stories, tried embarrassing newly-weds as much as you could. Poor Helen and Lu! You two also did tons of tricks to them. Like "bite one apple" was not even on the menu. The tricks you did were much hard than that. We all laughed too much. I almost did drop my baby there!
Dai Jiang, you still remember that we went to Xue-nong? You, Fu Ming and I, and another boy Fan XiRong were the cooks for our class during Xue-nong. We had so much fun together! Four of us went to that village a day earlier to get everything prepared. We sat around that evening, talked and laughed, stayed until midnight. We went to grocery shopping together, got a ride on tractor, laughing all the way! We shared some yummy, chatted with farmers, and you made fun of them, of course, friendly. And we cooked! I'm still a bit embarrassing - what kind food we fed our fellow classmates. I'm become a much better cook now. But every time when I make Hun-tun, I would remind my self, make a good soup. Because I still remember that I didn't listen to one of you, didn't prepare a soup for Hun-tun (it took us long time to make), spoiled a nice dinner.
Dai Jiang, we were buddies. We went to movie together. You took many pictures for me. I once fixed your coat. I think you always have a way, to make the girls around you comfortable. And I'm so glad that YouYu likes you a lot too. We all enjoyed the gathering with you and Fu Ming at our Shanghai trip. On the way to my parent's home, watched you carried fruits, wines and other stuff for my parents, YouYu whispered to me, "Neighbors might get confused, which one is the son-in-law?" Once you said, time can't change a person's character. Well, another thing wouldn't change either - we'll be buddies forever!
Dear Pang-nuan, do you like this story? Never mind that Dai Jiang boy. You were my best friend of our FuDan days! XOXO to you! You will getting better!!!
Li Dong
Can't believe I'm the sacrifice lamb here! Dong, it's not fair! Yet it has been stamped into our memory vivdly!

Hello everybody, hello ZhongNong!
Jamie, thanks for set up "Dong's column". Here comes more story. Today's story is special for the girls of Radio78'. The girls I spent four years together under the same ceiling!
Pang-nuan, you were the youngest, everybody's favorite baby sister! You were a little chubby then, you were so cute! your eyes always sparkled. We loved teasing you, because we wanted to see you jumping and screaming - that made you even cuter! Jamie, Helen and I were talking about that violin boy - you performed violin with him. At first, we called him your Qing-you, explained Qing is violin that Qing. Then, elevated to Qing-ge, Qing-di, you screamed, ok, back to Qing-you. You were beautiful from inside out. Only a few kids played violin then, not like nowadays. You, Ya-wa and I played a lot. While we were having a good time, you began a little nervous, worried about didn't get study done. You and I were two biggest Can-mao, we loved eating! And you complained many times to me, "You always kiss me and kiss me." I loved kissing your sweet soft cheeks. I do miss that!
Ya-wa was a shy sweet girl, soft spoken, always smile with dimples. She never argued with anybody. She had most the tears, such a Lin-mei-mei. I always sat next to her at the class. While not taking notes, my hand would be on her ears - I loved play with her big ears, that must bothered her, but she never complained. She was my bride's mate. Now she is a manager of a foreign business firm in Shanghai. I asked her at my Shanghai trip, how could she done that, and she said, well, Shi-zhe-sheng-cun...yah. I'm so proud of her!
And Helen, my dear, I was so impressed by you on our first FuDan day. With a hammer in your hand, you were helping us to put wen-zhang up. You were a tall pretty girl. We always could hear you coming before we seeing you. We were all jealous, your English was too good compare to rest of us. You were a easy going girl, studied hard. Do you still remember one evening, the last evening of a semester, after washing, at the same time while you opening the door, you pooled all the water into your bed! And you had to stay couple more days to dry your blanket. I didn't watch basketball then, I missed all your games. Do you still play?
Xiao-pan-pan, You were so lovely. You were little, that made me jealous, because I didn't like being a tallest girl for all those school years. You had two big brothers both in 77', that made me jealous too. You were the girl always had good grades. Once you were hurt when our class went to a park, had to get some stitches. JianFei, Li-li and I went to visit you. Your family treated us sheng-jie-bao-zi from that famous store on shi-meng-lu. It was so delicious! I had some sheng-jie-bao at this Shanghai trip. There was no comparison.
Li-li was the oldest in the girls. But you couldn't tell by looking. She was very good at Chinese literature, very knowledgeable. She was exposed compare to rest of us, knew all the stuff between nuan-wa and nu-wa, because the years she worked at factory. She sat high standard for herself. I knew what kind boy she liked, wish I could find him, wish he is still eligible!
Li YuChun was a clever girl from Guang-xi. She and I were born at the same month. She is the only girl lost in touch with all of us. We are waiting to hear from her, we all miss her!
People might thought, the girls of radio78' were just average looking. But you were all beautiful to me! I'm thinking hard, see if there was anything I did better than my girl pals. Yes, I slept better! We used to taking nap before the afternoon class, and I always had the best one, when my head touched pillow, I was gone. Some final days before summer break, could getting really hot. I remember one that kind night, you were all up, only me, slept like a baby. That must made you girls mad. Tell me now, did any of you tried to waking me up? Not like girls of other classes, seven of us got along together very well. Close my eyes, I still can see our room, who's bed was where... everything is still so clear. Oh, I had to stop. It's going to make me cry.
Li Dong
Hello, Shaoyun! Hello people, hello girls!
Anybody liked my yesterday's story? Girls, any comments?!
Jamie, thanks for digging Shaoyun and Zhongnong up for us. You are the center of our rolling snowball! Dongwei, are you back yet? Lucent's stock plunged to the hell. You better come to rescue! The boys in Shanghai are so quiet. Li Nan, you better say something or I might tell some story, which you might dislike! Have a nice day.
Li Dong
Hey, guys and gals! We need "cyber-patrol" here, the fact of the matter is - Dong has appointed herself as the "stand-up" story teller. What have you been doing, Jamie? A webmaster can wear many hats-be an "editor-in-chief", for goodness sake! Can't let Dong embarass all of us :=)
And I got hold of Ling Jing+Shi Zhongmin, now. promised to send me email today. Yu Dajing is Miami,FL!
Helen
Dear Friends,
Please send emails to my Yahoo account: helen_xu1111@yahoo.com, For I’m afraid I might accidentally erase your ever-intriguing messages from my work email. I have been swamped with work lately, I don’t know when I will be able to sent this msg out. One thing is very true for sure: can’t teach an OLD dog new tricks! Especially a female one, ‘cause she’ll bitch all the time!
In reponse to Dai Jiang and Li Dong: Basically, I have been challenged and intimidated to ‘fess up some vague stories happened 20 years ago, some of you so claimed. Well, this is “thin line” we all are walking on – trying to have as much fun as one can have, yet not damage or insult any innocent souls (or is there one in existence?) Being a “Tomboy” all my life, I’m shamelessly insensitive to many situations which inadvertently got me in trouble or embarrassed mercilessly! Ah, it’s going to haunt me for the rest of my life… I had had very fond friendship with many fine young men in my youth, though it seemed at the time that I was so hare-brained that didn’t think it could have been developed into “much deeper” scenario. What a shame and waste! Thank goodness God has the best interest in us, for I am very grateful to have learned that all of us have turned out OK – except my hare-brained part!
In response to Jamie: “Tooth for tooth”, you said! You just want to see the real blood! Never mind about “editor-in-chief” or “censorship as an evil”, should have known what you have been after! And sorry, can't make your day!
In response to Shaoyun: I have changed my last name to “Xu”, to be the “obedient” wife of Lu Xu. Have kept the maiden as the middle, an attempt in vain to keep my own identity. Tired of explaining myself, so I “gave in” to the western culture – picked out “Helen” for first name to make it complete!
Later!
Helen
