» NSF CAREER award! (2013-01-18)
    My NSF CAREER proposal has been awarded by the National Science Foundation! This is a great honor that will yield close to $500k spread over five years starting February 1, 2013. Please see the award abstract here for more details.
» Attending CHI 2011 (2011-05-08)
    Attending the ACM CHI 2011 conference in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Looking forward to seeing lots of interesting work, meeting all the nice people, and presenting our own work (Monday and Wednesday).
» All papers now available (2010-12-02)
    I have made all of my older research papers available on this website. They can now all be accessed and downloaded from the publications page. Some of them were previously located on one of my older websites that have since been removed, making them unavailable. Enjoy!
» End of Semester (2009-12-15)
    The end of the semester is here and I am wrapping up all my commitments. Overall, it has been a great 2009 for Pivot (including its founding)!
» VisWeek 2009 (2009-10-18)
    IEEE VisWeek 2009 is over, and PIVOT had a strong presence at the conference with myself and four students attending and giving presentations. Our full paper at the Systems session of InfoVis 2009 received good feedback, and we return to Indiana energized and inspired for next year!
    I am currently in the process of building my new research group. It will be called the Pivot Laboratory, short for Purdue Information Visualization Tools and Techniques. See the lab website for more information.

    Starting this Monday, I will be teaching ECE 49500 - Fundamentals of Computer Graphics. See the course website for more information.
» CHI 2009 paper! (2008-12-07)
    I have had a paper accepted for publication to ACM CHI 2009--- motion-pointing! The conference is scheduled for April 4-9, 2009 in Boston, MA.

» Best paper in IJVR! (2008-10-27)
    Our paper on occlusion management using the BalloonProbe was just selected as the Best Paper of 2007 for the International Journal on Virtual Reality!

    I have available funding for graduate research assistants, for Fall and Spring 2008. I am also running an undergraduate research project as part of the SURF Year-Round research program. Please refer to the positions page for details.

    Our paper on the ScatterDice project has been named Best Paper at IEEE InfoVis 2008 ! The paper will be presented during the first paper session on the morning of Sunday, October 19.

» Two CHI 2008 papers! (2007-12-10)
    Two of my papers have been accepted for publication at ACM CHI 2008--- Melange and 3D motion constraints! The conference will be held April 5-10, 2008 in Florence, Italy.
» Returned from InfoVis/VAST (2007-11-05)
    Despite Air France strikes and various airline delays, we had a great time attending IEEE InfoVis/VAST this year. The conference was held in Sacramento, CA. Lots of people and many interesting papers. Great event!
» Staying with INRIA... (2007-06-25)
    Thanks to my mentor---Jean-Daniel Fekete---and funding from Microsoft Research, I will be extending my contract at INRIA for another year. Great news!

» Attending VR 2007 (2007-03-12)
    I am currently attending IEEE VR 2007 and enjoying this nice conference. Lots of good sessions to attend and many interesting people to meet.
» Arrival in Paris! (2006-12-29)
    Today I arrived in Paris, France, for my stay as a postdoctoral researcher at the In-Situ lab at Universite Paris-Sud. I don't start working until January 2nd, so I will have some time to settle in and see the city before I go back to work.

    My new website is slowly coming together as I learn XSL/XSLT.
    My Ph.D. dissertation is now available for download from the web.
