Users Served: Primarily children and young adults with disabilities in the state of Indiana

 

Services Provided: ICAN trains dogs for several purposes:

• Skilled companion dogs are provided to children/adults with mobility or developmental challenges where a person without disabilities, usually a parent or spouse, facilitates the work of the dog

• Assistance dogs perform helpful tasks for adults who use wheelchairs or have other limitations in the arms or legs

• Skilled Companions do their assistance work at home of the recipient and do not have public access

Facility dogs work with professional caregivers who incorporate the dog into the care of their clients most frequently in hospitals or schools with special needs students

Release dogs are placed in other roles such as drug enforcement, search and rescue, or companion pet home placement

Disabling Conditions Served: Physical or mental impairments, diseases, or losses that have lasted or appear reasonably certain to last for a continuous period of 12 months that substantially impair the ability to perform labor or services or to engage in a useful occupation.

 

Users Served:  Individuals meeting all of the criteria outlined above along with income, assets, and other eligibility requirements may be eligible for Medicaid for the Disabled (MAD).  Working individuals who meet all but the income and assets requirements for MAD may be eligible for M.E.DD. Works (income level cannot exceed 350% of the federal poverty level).

 

Services Provided: 

Medicaid provides coverage for a variety of medical treatments, such as inpatient and outpatient hospital care, preventative services, rehabilitation services, and mental health care.
