CE 503 Homework 1 image scale computations
read text, chapters 1 & 2.
get (if you don't have) a purdue computer account. find
adobe photoshop or any other image viewer which can read out
image coordinates in PIXEL UNITS (line/sample, row/column).
in the front of the textbook there is CD with some programs
and image data. find "p17_i.raw" and "p18_i.raw". they
both have pixel dimensions of 7680 x 7680. the "fiducial
marks" in the corners have approximate coordinates of
+/- 110 mm with respect to the image center (principal point).
(many image viewers will not read ".raw" format - photoshop
will).
determine (giving all dimensions in metric units):
(1) the size of the pixel, in millimeters or micrometers.
hint. it should be a round number, not 532.7865, etc.
(2) from the yard markers at ross-aide stadium, determine the
GSD, ground sample distance (ground distance corresponding to
one pixel). 1 yard = 3 feet. 1 foot = 0.3048 meter
(3) given above results, what is the diameter of mackey arena?
(the big circular building near the football stadium).
(4) the images were taken in 1993. list a few changes that you
notice from the campus & surrounding area today.
