According to Silverman, there are more "poor" gifted kids than "rich" gifted kids. It is important that as teachers we recognize the values of low income Anglos in order to identify these students when appropriate. The following characteristics were identified as those of "giftedness" by low income Anglos, according to Jean Peterson (2001).

LOW INCOME ANGLOS VALUE AS GIFTS:

• Helping others, listening, and advising.
• Child-rearing, teaching.
• Manual dexterity, creativity.
• Academic ability with practical application.
• Overcoming adversity.
• Non-bookish learning.
