CE270: Term Report
for Fall 2012
Objective: To learn the importance of having a holistic understanding of structural engineering.
Approach: Developing and write a technical report on a real structure presenting its history, function, architecture, structural engineering, and current state.
Deliverable:
Select a significant engineered structure, e.g., building, bridge, tower, tank, power plant etc., located in the state of Indiana. Make sure that the selected structure is accessible so that you can physically observe it in person, on site.
Investigate the history of the structure, its functionality, architecture, structural layout and design. Obtain photographs and drawings of the structure that are accessible to the public. Visit the structure, and provide evidence of your visit (e.g., a photograph of yourself in front of the structure). Try to meet or interview the architect or engineer of the structure for more information. Do not pester these individuals as they might be busy.
Write a typed, double-spaced 5-page report on the structure using Times New Roman 11. Include photographs and figures as appropriate in these 5 pages. Provide a list of all references and cit when you quote them directly or indirectly.
Submission Date: On or before Nov. 20, 2012.
Submission Format: Printout – no emails will be accepted.
Net Worth: 5% of course grade.
