Infrared
drying involves penetration of infrared heat into the sample being dried.
The heat source is an infared lamp. The filament temperature of this
lamp is between 2000 - 2500 °K.
The heat penetration is more rapid than in the convection oven and this
can significantly shorten the drying time to 10 - 25 minutes.
Because
of the high temperature of the infared lamp, the distance from the infrared
source to the material being dried, and its thickness must be regulated
to ensure that the sample does not burn or case harden while drying.
