The Fixed Station Monitoring Program

IDEM’s Fixed Station Monitoring Program provides monthly data for water quality trend analysis and many existing and prospective users of surface water information in Indiana. Water quality data are collected monthly from 163 sites on various rivers and streams. Although the number and location of some of these stations have changed over time, a number of the stations have been continuously monitored since 1957. The program was developed to determine chemical, physical, and bacteriological characteristics of Indiana water under changing conditions. Because samples are collected throughout the year, it provides critical information for understanding seasonal variation.

Format of Geodatabase

The format is a file geodatabase for use in ArcGIS 10. Locations in UTM Zone 16 NAD83 were provided by IDEM.

Minor edits made at Purdue University

  • Latitude - longitude values in the original data, which were reportedly interpolated from paper maps, were discarded due to obvious location errors.
  • The samples which had recorded result of "-1" or "-2" have been removed.
