Academy participants work together to develop a project that contributes to the watershed community in Indiana. These projects have the potential to be used by others and advance watershed management in Indiana.

Reclaim the Floodplain

We developed an educational and interactive game targeting middle school students to adults. The game board provides an image of a floodplain and allows participates to take actions or make choices that have consequences (both good and bad) on the floodplain.

Watershed Interactive Map

We created an interactive story map detailing what Indiana’s Nonpoint Source Program.

We created a tri-fold brochure which provides an overview of best management practices targeting agricultural water quality.

Native Seed Library
Hayden McCloskey and Caitlin Yoder
We created and implemented a native seed library for Kosciusko County with the goal of educating citizens on native plant benefits. We partnered with master gardeners and master naturalists to develop the seed library. Citizens will be required to complete a native plant class to obtain a library card to check out or rent seeds. Harvested seeds will be returned at the end of the growing season to grow the seed pool for future participants.

Indiana Watershed Planning Map/Stakeholder Map

We created an interactive map where stakeholder groups are pinned to the map. The map will be searchable so that like-minded groups or individuals can locate others. Searches are exportable to excel.

Drops in the Wabash: Green Practices for Your Home
Nyssa Lilovich, Shannon Stanis and Jenn Domenach
We developed a handout detailing green practices in the Wabash River Community. The handout includes a residential sketch highlighting options that can be installed locally including rain barrels, orous pavement, native plants, tree planting, bilking and more. Practices are detailed with information about where you can obtain each practice and typical costs.

Where Does the Rain Go? A video tour with supplemental materials

We created a video and associated materials to educate individuals as to how water moves through a watershed. The video details water flowing through a public space utilizing maps and real world water flow video.

Guide for People without a Watershed Group: Watershed Planning 101

We created a webpage to assist individuals interested in launching a watershed group. The site includes the following: template letters to engage residents, ideas for getting the word out, grant options and ideas, monitoring information, where to start with building local partnerships, and where to find local assistance.

Benefits of Native Plants in Riparian Buffers

We developed a presentation highlight native plants. The presentation includes a definition of native plants; provides an overview of the benefits of native plants; and details how native buffers can be used in urban, agricultural and residential settings.

Yard MD
Josh Myers and Alyce Klein
We created Web MD but for your yard! The guide will help residents diagnose common yard issues and offer alternative management options using green infrastructure. Our efforts will focus on rain gardens, native yards, and stormwater capture and reuse. We provided links to available resources and existing guides.

We developed a brochure detailing how to organize a river clean-up scavenger hunt.
