GSSP for Homerian Stage


Definition:

The base of the Homerian Stage is located along the northern bank of a small stream that feeds the tributary to Sheinton Brook in Whitwell Coppice, 500m north of the hamlet of Homer, UK, and coincides with the base of the Cyrtograptus lundgreni Graptolite Biozone.

The GSSP is located along the northern bank of a small stream that feeds the tributary to Sheinton Brook in Whitwell Coppice, 500m north of the hamlet of Homer at SO 6194 0204.

Sedimentology:

The GSSP lies within the upper half of the Apedale Member of the Coalbrookdale Formation. The GSSP lies within a continuous mudstone sequence.


Primary Markers:

The base of the Homerian Stage coincides with the base of the Cyrtograptus lundgreni Graptolite Biozone.
