Me
Then (before 1985):
I am from India,
born in the state of
Kerala
: the vista of silent valleys clothed in the richest green,
and grew up in the state of
Rajasthan
: a desert land, most significant for bio-diversity values.
Vidhya Vihar Pilani, an oasis in Rajasthan, is where I grew up, got my education,
got married, had both my children Gitanjali and
Ravishankar
, and started my teaching and research carrier in computer science.
Vidhya Vihar is a beautiful campus town of Birla Institute of Technology
and Science (BITS).
My elementary and high school education were from Birla Shishu Vihar, and
Birla Balika Vidhya
Peeth
.
I completed B.Sc, M.Sc(Math),M.Tech(CS), and Ph.D.(CS) degrees from
Birla Institute of Technology
and Science
at Pilani. Sharada
Peeth
, is an all-marble twentieth century modern temple with mail idol of Godess
Saraswati, asymbol of knowledge. This beautiful temple is the center of the
BITS campus.
In January 1985, after having Pilani as my home for 34 years, I moved to
USA.
Now (after 1985):
On the cold and snowy night of January 29 1985, I landed at Atlanta, Georgia
to joint the department of Information and Computer Science at Georgia Institute
of Technology as a Fullbright Fellow. After 6 months of eager waiting my family
joined me in August 1985. In August 1987 we moved to West Lafatyette, Indiana
to join the department of Computer Science at Purdue University.
