Paying for Courses

There are a lot of factors to consider when choosing a graduate program. Purdue strives to provide the best quality, efficiency, convenience, and affordability possible.

  • We're among the most affordable when compared to other top-five engineering programs.
  • Most students who graduated between July 2017 and July 2018 completed their programs in 2.5 years, at a cost of less than $40,000.
  • In a recent survey, 76 percent of graduates said they received a raise or had been promoted six months after graduation.

Paying for Courses

Tuition is due by the first day of classes each semester. Paying for your online courses is an efficient and streamlined process. Simply log into myPurdue, the University's portal system, and you can pay online using American Express, MasterCard, Discover and Visa (with an added 2.75 percent convenience fee for credit card payments). You also may pay by electronic check or bank transfer, with no additional charge.

Installment Plans

You can sign up for a payment plan to avoid making one large payment each semester. You'll be charged 25 percent of your tuition and fees when you enroll, as well as 8 percent APR on the amount deferred. You'll then pay off the balance in three equal payments over the course of the semester.

Third-Party Payment

If your employer or a tuition assistance program is covering the costs for you (84 percent of new entrants last year were at least partially covered) we'll invoice them directly after the last official drop day for students. The third party will need to send a voucher or written approval, on letterhead, to the Purdue University Bursar, Attn: Chad Lester (cdlester@purdue.edu or fax to 765-496-1133). The approval must include:

  • Full name of the student and his/her Purdue University ID (PUID) number
  • Course number and title
  • Company name and billing address
  • Amount of tuition and all fees being covered
  • Any restrictions or conditions on what payments will cover
  • Length of sponsorship (dates the tuition will cover)
  • Billing contact name, phone, fax, and email

Financial Assistance

There are a number of financial assistance options to help defray the costs of enrolling in an online program. These include Stafford loans, graduate PLUS loans, military programs, and loans from private lenders. Through myPurdue, you can monitor your financial aid funding and make sure the proper payments are made in a timely fashion.

Office of the Bursar Payment Guidelines

Tuition and fees are due by the first day of classes each semester.  Students must confirm their enrollment each term to let the University know they plan on attending as well as to make sure they have met all required financial obligations.  The Bursar Office allows students a grace period in order to complete these tasks.  The Bursar Office sends emails informing students of action steps needed.  For students who have not confirmed their enrollment by the end of the allotted grace period, they may be subject to having their registration cancelled for that specific term.

Prepayment

Prepayment of tuition & fees begins the second week of each term.   At this time students still have the option to register for the term with instructor approval, but are required to prepay tuition & fees and are subject to a $200 late registration fee.  Prepayment of Fees includes any student that is registering for the first time or any student who had their registration cancelled due to non-payment.  Students can prepay their tuition & fees via their myPurdue page by clicking on the Bills & Payments Tab and selecting the "Make a Payment" link.
